"Just Not Sick" Managed Care vs "Wellness" Care

When playing in the managed care system, we must remember that the insurance companies only care that the patient’s are “just not sick” and not “well.” The is an undeniable truth when looking at how 95% of all health dollars are spent on treating and diagnosing “sick care” and only 5% is spent on “prevention and wellness.” So long as pharma runs the game, it will not change. This year it is expected to spend 2.4 trillion dollars on the health system and rising each year! How else could we have become 44th in infant mortality worldwide?! We spend over 50% of the worlds dollars on pharma and yet we are only 5% of the world’s population. I see a HUGE problem here!

We must be careful not to fall into the trap of “evidence based medicine” as one; we aren’t medicine unless that’s a raspberry adjustment you’re giving. The medical field hides behind this argument which is full of fallacies and incongruencies! From vaccines to drugs dispensed, they don’t use their own research and findings parameters. After all, the placebos get better results than the drugs themselves most of the time!

We see this information being shared via social media each and everyday that is shaking the medical society, as it should! Powerful lobbying dollars can not shut up the little man and woman any longer when we have the Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and many others to openly share the truths. Even the medical field of their own doctors is feeling the need to share their research findings that have been altered or distorted.

Also, “overcharging” per procedure is of no significance since you are agreeing to accept their fee structure, but “undercharging” has more significance as you may not be charging enough. The Insurance companies took control of the fee structure 10 years ago. I doubt this is really a problem anymore in our profession; we have become wiser about fee schedules since I became OSCIPA President in 2008-2009.

So, I say if playing by their game, learn and utilize that their limits of allowable by insurance plans must not limit your treatment and care of your patients. They deserve much more than just pain relief! They deserve to know the truth of Wellness and receive the greatest gift we can give them – The Adjustment! WE turn their POWER back on with each adjustment one by one adding up to a beautiful portrait of a healthy individual that is less dependent on drugs and surgery!
