Lillian, A Life Changing Story

Some of you out there have read my facebook posting about our little girl patient, Lillian. She was 6 weeks old when she came in and now is 5 months old.

The story begins with the Mother not being able to get pregnant due to cancer treatment. Shannon, our nutritionist, herbalists and my wife, helped her get pregnant! Then, this is where the story begins: Lillian had been throwing up 3-5x's per day in spite of what her Mother would eliminate from her diet. Upon returning from a nutritional seminar, Shannon learned from the presenting doctor that possibly Lillian had a hiatal hernia. He suggested that if the chiropractor that Lillian's parents went to did not feel comfortable performing the adjusting procedure to have me, her husband, do so. This is where I stepped in and changed a little girls life forever! Not only did she receive the hiatal hernia adjustment, she also received regular chiropractic adjustments. After all, her thermal scan of her nervous system was hotter than most all adults I had tested.

Lillian came in 3x's per week for two weeks, 2x's per week for two weeks, 1x per week for three weeks and once every other two weeks for three visits then once a month. Within the first week we had her vomiting down to once a week. Within four weeks, she never threw up again!!

Come to find out, her Daddy had the very same procedure performed on him quite regularly. Hmmm, doesn't that make you realize that our children develop subluxations of their spines just like us.

What a rewarding story of beginning with Mom and closure with Daughter!

Why I Became A Chiropractor

Sorry guys for the late blog today. A new year means alot of new paperwork with insurance companies and it can get a little overwhelming at times.

I was thinking this morning of when I was 11 years old in 1976 at Palmer Chiropractic Lyseum (Homecoming) when I attended with my Dad, Mother, and Brother. It was a different time in chiropractic's history. What I mean is, you've heard how dictators conquer nations by limiting resources to that nation letting its leaders fight among themselves so much that the dictator walks right in time and just takes over that nation. Well, that's what's happened to our profession. The insurance companies, with the help of government agencies, have cut the resources of benefits to the chiropractors that they are now fighting among themselves trying to get each others patients, etc.... In 1976, every chiropractor had more of a wellness practice, before that term was developed, and essentially all patients paid cash with no insurance benefits until the 80's. So, there was no limited resources, no fighting over patients, trying to out advertise one another, filing board complaints, etc..... The list can go on and on.

This is the time when I remember how much fun it was to be around other chiropractors, and their families and kids. That is when I decided to become a Chiropractor! After all, my Dad had lived thru much tougher times in Louisiana, the last state in the nation to license Chiropractors and Osteopathic Doctors. In that time he was extremely close, as all chiropractors were then, to each of the other chiropractors in the city of Shreveport, where I was born, and the state. But, that's another story to be told at a another time.

I had been approached by my chemistry teacher, Mrs Jackson in high school, years later asking why I wouldn't be a DO instead of an DC. I told her that the DO, Doctor of Osteopathy, next door was never home, his kids didn't get to see him and he looked so stressed with that pager on his hip all the time. ( History be told, I found out a few years ago that he had committed suicide about 5-6yrs ago. No wonder he was so stressed looking. I don't relate that to the profession of Osteopathy, but I can't help but notice the unhealthy and unhappy lifestyle.)

So, as time has proven to me, I am very thankful to be a Chiropractor!

In The Beginning - I Blogged!

Today begins a New Day, a New Week, a New Month, a New Year, a New Decade!

This begins my very first blog and I am quite excited to share my thoughts and events throughout my every day! I look forward to sharing my stories about growing up in Chiropractic as a second generation Chiropractor and the many changes within our health field. My 21 years and my Dad's 51 years have many stories to share.

Today so many people are re-evaluating their New Year's Resolutions and once again are wanting to be more fit and healthy. One can not forget to evaluate one's nervous system, which controls all function in our body, so as to be able to obtain those goals. As a Wellness facility, we focus on helping you obtain greater Health and Wellness thru natural means. After all, better living thru better pharmaceuticals has not resulted in better Health! It has cost us 10 times the world averages and put us 37th on the list of healthy nations. We are behind many third world countries as a result of our lifestyle choices. It is stated that 70-80% of todays diseases are a direct result of our choices several decades ago. So, let's make this a better decade of choices!!

We must not let politics, insurance companies, schools, pharmaceutical companies, lobyists, and government (to name a few) dictate our choices! WE must step up and change our lifestyles choices and little by little become a healthier nation starting with each one of us individually!
