Tis the season to not forget the wonderful things your loved ones do 4 u! Love U Shannon!

Pain - The Inconvenient Truth!

Are you just ignoring pain because it's just too darn inconvenient to deal with? Maybe you just don't have the time to deal with it. It cost too much to deal with. (Imagine how much more it's going to cost you later!) It's not that bad. Blah Blah Blah I've heard them all!

When you ignore the body's natural response to too much stressor on the body, it begins to break down it's communication of healing and sends multiple signals from aches, soreness to pains. Don't ignore! Take action! What happens if you ignore a small problem at work or home? - A Big One replaces it...

It just seems to be too much work for people to deal with the truth or for my fellow colleagues to tell the truth about health and wellness. Maybe.... They just don't have the means to evaluate the stress levels on the body! (Simply stated: "I DO!")

It's the holiday season and stress doesn't just float around, it builds up on your central nervous system like 10lbs at a time on your back. Come visit us where I can truly evaluate your stress levels and begin to reduce and improve your nervous system function! And, if your not from around the Tulsa area, call and I will find someone in your neighborhood or city to help you!

Shae's Testimonial

Dr. Gallagher's End of Year Tip-Use Your Health Insurance for Chiropractic

Do You Have Passion?

Last night I was speaking to my Mother, I spoke of how proud my Dad would be knowing that I would be going on a Chiropractic Mission Trip! I told her that I would adjust at least a thousand people who had never received one before. Just think of the impact that would make! Most chiropractors will take 8 years to see that many new patients, not taking into account how many of those patients have never been adjusted, which could be closer to 10 years! I would do this in 5 days!!!

I spoke of how so many chiropractors have become spineless, not willing to step up and take their life by the horns and tell their patients the truth about health, wellness and subluxations of their spine and nervous system! It's easier for them to just go along with the insurance allowables and let them be told how, why, and when to adjust and for what "Pains". What a sad life to live in such fear and disdain! After all, we in America leave our health and wellness up to someone else, preferably the insurance company or government entity. Right?!

I told my Mother that I was not just going to follow sheep over the cliff's edge anymore and live with passion! I want to spread that passion beyond my city's boundaries and was going to Tobago!! Why not, right. Go big time and share my passionate skills with the world and no strings attached, after all, it was free to whomever would be adjusted! Yes, I know my Dad would be very proud of these actions and probably be there in spirit to participate!

Thanks to all of our Tulsa friends who came out to network tonight at Gallagher Wellness Centre Happy Holidays to you all!

Can You Handle the Truth?!

I ask myself so many times a week "how did our fellow chiro's loose their identity?" They just don't appear to care, just treat based on insurance allowables, thus a sub-optimal quality of care, and don't break out and change our world through changing and saving lives! In fact, they are just pain management docs and not Wellness docs. Why? -when we can offer so much more. Reach out to your true potential.

As in the medical field, many chiropractors are disenchanted with their practices and are on the lookout to retire and quit. Get some passion back!! Watch "The Secret" or even better read "The Power". Maybe, then they would get it and realize that we are beings of attraction and not just mere beings floating around bouncing off this and that and life just gives us what comes! WE all bring about our destiny and future. Our thoughts are the fuel of our destination.

So, Docs, can you take the truth and wake up? People out their are striving, desiring our skills to help them and not just patch them up. They've had too much of that already! Give them so much more and guess what? You will receive so much more!!

Can I get an amen? Or, can you not handle the truth?

1950: 1st Hour with the Developer of Chiropractic

It was 8:02am, Monday morning, and my Dad had just sat down in his chair of the classroom of his very first hour of chiropractic education when Dr. B.J. Palmer went over to the classroom door and locked it! He had been told that "You'd better be there on time or Dr. Palmer will lock you out!"

What an attitude for an instructor, after all, he was originally going to attend Harvard Business School and get his Masters. My Dad thought, "Naaa, surely, not!", but he didn't want to take any chances, so he showed up early to class just in case. My Dad had heard of this action by Dr. Palmer occurring, but didn't believe it until it actually happened. And Yes, it happened! Dr. Palmer proceeded to the door, locked it, and started an hour long lecture that my Dad said felt like five minutes. Dr. Palmer was so passionate that every single person was enthralled and on the edge of their seats the entire time. In fact, you didn't dare to speak either as Dr. Palmer would probably kick you out!

Dr. Palmer was a very dynamic and charismatic person, which was needed back in the 1920's to 1960's, for the chiropractic profession to survived the dogmatic pressures brought on by the medical field. Interesting enough, the modern medical field was only 20 years older than chiropractic! The battle of economics were prevalent even back then.

That first hour was so dynamic that my Dad, as well as many other students, went on to be great pioneers in our field. Some create colleges, some had the biggest practices ever recorded, and some even went to jail for this profession, as my Dad did! He was so inspired and the experience was burned into his memory that he could tell me that story many times over the last thirty or so years.

In fact when my Dad went back home on fall break, he told his Dad's closest friend, a medical doctor, that "chiropractic was going to take over the health field and shut down the need for the medical pharmaceutical approach!" My Grandfather quickly pulled my Dad aside and told him that "Until you've been in practice for over 25 years you have no room to talk and don't embarass me!""

What a great story and time that had to have been!

My Head Hurts Daddy!

When growing up in the chiropractic community, I didn't know what was a headache. I only knew my head didn't feel right and I would promptly say to my Dad, "Daddy my head hurts. Can I get an adjustment?" No, I didn't take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc. Thus, I would respond very quickly and was on the right health and wellness path of existence in America, even before people had any idea of the long term damaging effects of these simple over the counter drugs.

How about the Flu? No, I didn't take anything either. I would get my adjustments, take mutiple kinds of whole food supplements, and promorphogen supplements. I would be over the latest "bug" in 48 hrs, never missing school for all my 12 years in Sapulpa. In fact, most people never knew that I was even under the weather. Yet, I would watch time and time again my peers take days and sometimes weeks to get over a variety of ailments all the way up to the Flu.

Now 45 years later, I look to my peers and see how unhealthy they have become. Look at their skin, their eyes, or even how their physique looks and you can easily see the long term effects of these drugs first handed! Did I make this decision myself? Of course not. I was directed by my Dad and Mother to utilize natural approaches to health and it has greatly paid off many dividends fold!

Today, along with my wife, am passing this chiropractic approach to health and wellness to our own kids and seeing the same results - tremendous recovery times of healing when exposed to the latest "bug". It takes a very concerted effort for the average person, who has been inundated with television and radio ads for years, to even see beyond this brain washing effect on society. "Say no to drugs, but here's your latest drug for _____." -what an oximoronic approach to life.

People please educate yourself and look to new ideas outside, around and beyond the boxes we have been limited to for years!

Are You Drinking the Koolaid?

So many people never question so called authorities of society. Many can be found in the health industry, such as the pharmaceutical and medical associations. Lobbying efforts and funding research on their behave have resulted in extremely biased data - some of which has since been found to be very damaging and even deadly.

My Father didn't drink the koolaid. In fact, he chose to be the pioneer of a newly developing profession in the late 1950's - Chiropractic. Imagine a time where no one ever questioned their medical doctor, after all they were the next thing to God back then.... Now, a different story. And yet, my Father, who's grandfather was a Medical Surgeon, chose to walk a different new and exciting path. Little did he know that his life would be so interesting and adventurous!

Today, more and more of us are questioning self-imposed authorities of society in general, especially the healthcare system. Remember, only you can make a change in thinking, habits and lifestyles that impact your health and even epigenics, a new science of genes, has found we determine our own future - not a predisposed thought or gene. Step out of your skin and revisit your current thinking and behaviors to explore new health - Wellness!

Don't wait until you're so unhealthy from living what you were told is a healthy lifestyle of "______" and wake up one day regretting the choices determined for you by others. Own your life, take back your life and remember:

"Live For Today". My father went into the hospital January '09, Passed April '09, but in his last days he shared he wanted to sale his practice, work part-time in mine, spend more time with his grand kids, take my Mom to Sweden, maybe go to the Chiropractic Colleges and speak since they have been on him for years, share his passion with the ...future of chiropractic. So before your Tomorrow is Gone, "Live for Today & Live with Passion"

My Father was Arrested for Practicing Medicine without a License!

"My Father was arrested for practicing medicine without a license!" Yes, it's true. Although he had 5 state licensures for chiropractic, it didn't matter in the state of Louisiana. It happened back in the 1960's and the last time was in 1968. There they didn't license D.C's (Doctors of Chiropractic) and D.O.'s (Doctors of Osteopathy) until 1974! My Dad received his licensure 6 years later in 1974 for the state of Louisiana. He was practicing in Oklahoma by then and chuckled when he got it.

Such a rich part of history of our profession! Approximately over 200 D.C.'s went to jail from the mid 1910's to the 1960's. They've even created a Bell Tower in Marietta Georgia where Life Chiropractic University inducted my Father among many other D.C.'s for their valiant efforts to save this great profession from the auspices of the medical dogma.

The irony of these events is that upon being forced to leave Lousiana or go to Leavenworth Jail, my Father sold his home to a medical doctor! You an imagine the emotions that were evoked by my Dad?

So, for some of you this may explain my behavior as a son of a jaildog! Ha Ha Ha Iwill have to elaborate the many stories that surround his events of those years from 1960-1968 in Lousiana.

Have We forgotten our History Chiros?

It constantly amazes me at how many in my profession have no clue about the history of our great profession. So many docs became chiropractors in the late 80's and current because it was a fast growing and good income profession. When my Dad went to Palmer Chiropractic College in 1954, most all students went because of a personal experience thru chiropractic saved their lives or made drastic improvements! As a result, the passion for our profession has gradually decreased. Is it just a job?

Up until the mid 70's chiropractic reimbursement was strictly thru a cash basis. After that point it was covered under insurance. Up until the mid 70's, chiropractic was known for helping asthma, ulcers, allergies, indigestion, diverticulis, etc....... It was not known for headaches, back pain, neck pain, sciatica, numbness, or tingling as it's primary source of treatment until the insurance companies dictated the profession as a neuromuscular/orthopedic form of treatment. As a result, limited thinking developed over the last 40 years.

It's time for my fellow chiropractors to spread the word of how great our profession is in restoring nerve function and all else follows! We don't treat back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, etc.! We treat nerve interference, know as subluxations, that create a whole host of symptoms in our bodies! We don't cure anything, our body does all the healing!

Before insurance, it was widely known, that to get the body back in shape neurologically, it would take dozens of visits; then, a level of wellness could be maintained at twice a month. After insurance, chiropractic was utilized only for pain control and it would take 8-12 visits to accomplish this deed. What an unservice to each person receiving adjustements! Now, you had insurance companies telling the docs what and when to treat! How appalling! This would not be tolerated prior to the mid 70's, but now the insurance companies hold the money purse.

Instead, it's time to tell the public the truth about the healing process and chiropractic! People are striving to hear the truth in the day and age of pharmaceutical failures. Today's pharmaceutical use has risen too vastly and too quickly. Today's improved quality of life is achieved thru better lifestyle choices not better drugs!

What Inspires Me

About a month ago, while attending a continuing education seminar, I was asked to write down what or who inspired me to become a chiropractor and list a few points about your practice. So, here are a few of the points I wrote:
  1. Observing my Father's chiropractic practice as a child treating a multitude of conditions beyond just back pain or headaches was routinely helped each and every day was extremely motivating to me to help others achieve better health and wellness.
  2. Our common quote is "you don't have to be sick to get well!" My practice focuses on not just getting you out of pain, but keeping you out of pain.
  3. Seeing the results of people changing and saving their lives from ongoing and future years of degenerating, damaging, and depressed functioning spine and nervous system is very rewarding.
  4. Where else can you practice as a healthcare provider that actually focuses on the cause of a problem and not just cover up the symptoms only to see even greater problems develop?!
  5. Expect to be educated in our office about developing improved Wellness lifestyles. In excess of 70% of today's diseases are preventable by better lifestyle choices. In America we spend in excess of 2.5 trillion dollars on healthcare of which 95% are spent on diagnosing and treating disease and only 5% on prevention and wellness. We help you Discover Wellness!

Would You Love Your Profession for 50+Yrs?

This morning I was thinking of my Dad, a chiropractor for 51yrs, and thought of the congruency of his actions. He believed in natural living, no artificials and no pharmaceuticals for the average day of a person. Yes, pharma is necessary for emergencies, but the chronic emergencies, as is the case in America, is way too over used. He practiced this way 50yrs before it became the fad, the trend and the shift of peoples' consciousnesses.

Imagine the wherewithal he had to have to begin his life with these daily lifestyle choices? How many of you can even begin to listen to your gut and break trends of bad choices even before they begin as a society? What wisdom one must have to silent their thoughts and just listen.

Why has America just gone with the flow? I thought we were the country that broke out and created new innovations, not new ways to drug you up. But, that's what's happened. Big controlling interest, companies, look at people as just commodities of trade and profiteering.

Yet, too many enjoy the numb state! Why think for ourselves? It's too comfortable just to live in this somber state of hum drum, don't rock the boat.

It's time for all of us to wake up from this trance placed upon us!

Today Is A GREAT Day!

Today is a great day and I have the opportunity to save lives!

If your nervous system isn't functioning properly, it can't sense all actions correctly and thus, will not allow proper healing. Too many people don't understand this basic principle of life. They would rather take a pharmaceutical, which you can't blame them, since they have been brain washed to belief they will fix anything. Those television and internet ads have been pounded into our minds all our lives! This is what has created the health dilemma in America. Now 70-80% of diseases today are due to lifestyle decisions from earlier in life. One example of unhealthy living is the introduction of con syrup into almost everything you eat today. Read the label and only begin eating those items that don't have corn syrup or artificial sugars. Your body will thank you. After all, you can't fool God. So, what makes you think you can fool your body?

These lifestyle changes can't occur over night and must be performed little by little or one will get burned out by too much change too fast. Pace yourself. Don't push too hard. After all, eustress, good healthy stress, is better than distress, unhealthy stress. Begin to evaluate your physical, mental/emotional, and bio-chemical stressors that gradually break down the body's ability to self-regulate and self-heal.

You too can save lifes, particulary your own, by taking these baby step to true wellness!

Lillian, A Life Changing Story

Some of you out there have read my facebook posting about our little girl patient, Lillian. She was 6 weeks old when she came in and now is 5 months old.

The story begins with the Mother not being able to get pregnant due to cancer treatment. Shannon, our nutritionist, herbalists and my wife, helped her get pregnant! Then, this is where the story begins: Lillian had been throwing up 3-5x's per day in spite of what her Mother would eliminate from her diet. Upon returning from a nutritional seminar, Shannon learned from the presenting doctor that possibly Lillian had a hiatal hernia. He suggested that if the chiropractor that Lillian's parents went to did not feel comfortable performing the adjusting procedure to have me, her husband, do so. This is where I stepped in and changed a little girls life forever! Not only did she receive the hiatal hernia adjustment, she also received regular chiropractic adjustments. After all, her thermal scan of her nervous system was hotter than most all adults I had tested.

Lillian came in 3x's per week for two weeks, 2x's per week for two weeks, 1x per week for three weeks and once every other two weeks for three visits then once a month. Within the first week we had her vomiting down to once a week. Within four weeks, she never threw up again!!

Come to find out, her Daddy had the very same procedure performed on him quite regularly. Hmmm, doesn't that make you realize that our children develop subluxations of their spines just like us.

What a rewarding story of beginning with Mom and closure with Daughter!

Why I Became A Chiropractor

Sorry guys for the late blog today. A new year means alot of new paperwork with insurance companies and it can get a little overwhelming at times.

I was thinking this morning of when I was 11 years old in 1976 at Palmer Chiropractic Lyseum (Homecoming) when I attended with my Dad, Mother, and Brother. It was a different time in chiropractic's history. What I mean is, you've heard how dictators conquer nations by limiting resources to that nation letting its leaders fight among themselves so much that the dictator walks right in time and just takes over that nation. Well, that's what's happened to our profession. The insurance companies, with the help of government agencies, have cut the resources of benefits to the chiropractors that they are now fighting among themselves trying to get each others patients, etc.... In 1976, every chiropractor had more of a wellness practice, before that term was developed, and essentially all patients paid cash with no insurance benefits until the 80's. So, there was no limited resources, no fighting over patients, trying to out advertise one another, filing board complaints, etc..... The list can go on and on.

This is the time when I remember how much fun it was to be around other chiropractors, and their families and kids. That is when I decided to become a Chiropractor! After all, my Dad had lived thru much tougher times in Louisiana, the last state in the nation to license Chiropractors and Osteopathic Doctors. In that time he was extremely close, as all chiropractors were then, to each of the other chiropractors in the city of Shreveport, where I was born, and the state. But, that's another story to be told at a another time.

I had been approached by my chemistry teacher, Mrs Jackson in high school, years later asking why I wouldn't be a DO instead of an DC. I told her that the DO, Doctor of Osteopathy, next door was never home, his kids didn't get to see him and he looked so stressed with that pager on his hip all the time. ( History be told, I found out a few years ago that he had committed suicide about 5-6yrs ago. No wonder he was so stressed looking. I don't relate that to the profession of Osteopathy, but I can't help but notice the unhealthy and unhappy lifestyle.)

So, as time has proven to me, I am very thankful to be a Chiropractor!

In The Beginning - I Blogged!

Today begins a New Day, a New Week, a New Month, a New Year, a New Decade!

This begins my very first blog and I am quite excited to share my thoughts and events throughout my every day! I look forward to sharing my stories about growing up in Chiropractic as a second generation Chiropractor and the many changes within our health field. My 21 years and my Dad's 51 years have many stories to share.

Today so many people are re-evaluating their New Year's Resolutions and once again are wanting to be more fit and healthy. One can not forget to evaluate one's nervous system, which controls all function in our body, so as to be able to obtain those goals. As a Wellness facility, we focus on helping you obtain greater Health and Wellness thru natural means. After all, better living thru better pharmaceuticals has not resulted in better Health! It has cost us 10 times the world averages and put us 37th on the list of healthy nations. We are behind many third world countries as a result of our lifestyle choices. It is stated that 70-80% of todays diseases are a direct result of our choices several decades ago. So, let's make this a better decade of choices!!

We must not let politics, insurance companies, schools, pharmaceutical companies, lobyists, and government (to name a few) dictate our choices! WE must step up and change our lifestyles choices and little by little become a healthier nation starting with each one of us individually!
